Dr. Zipfel specializes in the surgical treatment of cerebrovascular disease and complex tumors of the skull base. His basic and clinical research program examines the impact of vascular oxidative stress and cerebral amyloid angiopathy on Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, explores underlying mechanisms and applies novel therapeutics to secondary brain injury following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, and assesses the pathophysiology, natural history, and management of dural arteriovenous fistulae.
